In 1960, Dr. Vincent Arone, Sr. founded The Ledges as a summer camp for children and young adults living with autism. By the summer's end, it became clear that over half of the campers wanted to continue their education at The Ledges as permanent residents. At this time, the decision was made to begin operating The Ledges as a year-round facility, offering educational and rehabilitative services to a growing number of individuals and families.
Since The Ledges' founding, the agency has continued to grow, in both size and scope of services offered. Today, we provide services for approximately 40 adults living with a wide range of developmental, physical and medical disabilities.
While we have seen many changes at The Ledges over the years, the warm and supportive environment that so appealed to those first residents is very much alive today.
